About This Course
Manual handling, or to be accurate, incorrect manual handling, is one of the most common causes of injury at work. To try and combat manual handling problems, the Manual Handling Operations Regulations were introduced. The Regulations lay out duties for both employees and employers.
They give a general requirement that employees must be trained to manually handle correctly, including the use of any equipment their employer provides to handle loads safely. This Manual Handling Online course outlines what constitutes manual handling and covers the regulations and legislation that apply to manual handling tasks. It then covers safe handling techniques and how to develop good habits in relation to manual handling.

By the end of this course, you will be able to:
- Define Manual Handling and state the correct technique and application of effective Manual Handling.
- Understand the relevant legislation and comply with the regulations.
- Recognise safe handling techniques and be able to develop good habits.
- Evaluate every manual situation you encounter, recognising risks and when to use mechanical aids.

Using this Online Manual Handling Course course in Ireland
This online course can support Irish workplace training records for employees, supervisors, managers and contractors who need structured workplace awareness training. It is useful where an employer wants a consistent awareness module, a refresher option or a documented learning record that can be assigned to staff without arranging a classroom session.
The course should still be matched to the learner's role, the work activity, the site risk assessment and any local procedures. Online training is strongest when it is used alongside supervision, workplace instruction and practical checks where the topic involves equipment, physical tasks or site-specific controls.
Phoenix STS presents this course for Irish learners and employers as part of a wider training matrix. The course information PDF and sample certificate on this page help managers check the content before assigning it to staff.
Course information PDF

Sample certificate

Why online manual handling may need practical follow-up
This online course is useful for theory, awareness and refresher records. Where a learner carries out manual handling tasks that require safe physical technique, Phoenix STS recommends practical assessment or blended training rather than treating online theory alone as proof of competence.
The HSA states that refresher training is recommended at intervals of not more than three years, or sooner where work practices, equipment or work areas change. Phoenix STS uses that guidance when advising employers how to place online manual handling inside a wider training matrix.

Client administrator responsibility
Where a client appoints an administrator to manage learner access, that administrator is responsible for checking that each learner has completed the relevant online training programme before the learner presents for the face-to-face practical element.
Learners must be able to show the relevant online completion certificate, printout, PDF or screenshot before the practical session starts. If the online programme has not been completed, or the learner is not in possession of the required completion evidence before the practical element begins, Phoenix STS may be unable to validate that learner for the practical element or issue certification for the blended programme.
This responsibility sits with the customer where they control learner administration and course access. Phoenix STS will still carry out any checks that are required by a regulator, awarding body, recognised institution, approved training institution or course-specific rule, including checks on identity, previous qualification, certification or eligibility where those checks are required.
