Course Overview

Falls from ladders are one of the most common causes of workplace injury in Ireland. This CPD-accredited course provides essential training on the safe selection, inspection, and use of ladders and stepladders, helping workers and employers comply with the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work (General Application) Regulations 2007.

The course covers when ladders are appropriate for use, pre-use inspection procedures, correct positioning and securing techniques, and the three points of contact rule. It also addresses the hierarchy of work at height controls and when alternative access equipment should be considered.

About This Course

The Health and Safety Authority reports that falls from height, including falls from ladders, account for a significant proportion of workplace injuries and fatalities each year. Many of these accidents are preventable through proper training, equipment selection, and adherence to safe working practices.

This course teaches learners to assess whether a ladder is the most appropriate equipment for the task, how to carry out a pre-use visual inspection, the correct angle and securing methods, load limits, and the environmental conditions that affect ladder safety. It also covers employer responsibilities for ladder maintenance and inspection records.
