Course Overview

The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) is the statutory framework that sets the standards for the learning, development, and care of children from birth to five years of age. It provides the foundation upon which all early years settings build their practice, ensuring that every child receives the best possible start in life and is supported to reach their full potential.

This CPD-accredited online course offers a comprehensive introduction to the EYFS framework, covering its key principles, areas of learning and development, and the assessment requirements. Whether you are new to early years education or looking to refresh your knowledge, this course provides a solid grounding in the fundamentals of the EYFS.

About This Course

The Early Years Foundation Stage framework is built upon four overarching principles: that every child is unique; that children learn to be strong and independent through positive relationships; that children learn and develop well in enabling environments; and that children develop and learn in different ways and at different rates. These principles guide all aspects of early years practice.

This course explores the seven areas of learning and development within the EYFS, including the three prime areas of communication and language, physical development, and personal, social and emotional development, as well as the four specific areas of literacy, mathematics, understanding the world, and expressive arts and design. Learners will understand how these areas interconnect and how to plan activities that support holistic child development.

The course also covers the safeguarding and welfare requirements of the EYFS, including child protection policies, staff-to-child ratios, health and safety standards, and the role of the key person. Learners will gain an understanding of the assessment and reporting requirements, including the progress check at age two and the EYFS Profile. By the end of this course, you will have a thorough understanding of the EYFS framework and how to apply it in practice.

Who Is This Course For?

This course is ideal for nursery practitioners, childminders, teaching assistants, early years educators, and anyone working with or planning to work with children from birth to five years of age. It is also suitable for parents and carers who wish to understand the EYFS framework.
