Legislative Framework
Hot works activities in Ireland are governed by the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act 2005 (Section 8 — General Duties of Employer) and the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work (General Application) Regulations 2007. The Fire Services Acts 1981 and 2003 impose duties on persons having control of premises to take all reasonable measures to guard against fire, which includes managing ignition sources from hot works. Employers must ensure that a formal hot works permit system is in place, fire precautions are taken before, during and after hot works, and that all personnel involved are competent and trained.
