Course Overview

Electricity is present in virtually every workplace and, while essential, it poses significant risks if not managed safely. Electric shock, burns, and fires caused by electrical faults are preventable through proper awareness and training. This CPD-accredited course provides learners with a comprehensive understanding of electrical hazards and the safe working practices required to manage them.

The course covers the fundamentals of electrical safety, including identifying risks, understanding safe isolation procedures, the importance of portable appliance testing, and the employer's duties under the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work (General Application) Regulations 2007 regarding electrical installations and equipment.

About This Course

Electrical accidents can result in severe injuries or fatalities, as well as significant property damage. According to the Health and Safety Authority, contact with electricity and electrical discharge are among the leading causes of workplace fatalities in Ireland.

This course provides practical knowledge on how to work safely with electrical equipment, recognise signs of electrical danger, report defective equipment, and respond appropriately to electrical emergencies. It covers topics including residual current devices (RCDs), circuit protection, cable management, and the safe use of extension leads and portable equipment.

Under the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act 2005, employers must ensure that electrical installations are maintained in a safe condition and that employees receive adequate information and training on electrical hazards.
