Employers have a legal duty to ensure employees understand workplace safety:

Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act 2005

The 2005 Act requires employers to provide instruction, training, and supervision to ensure the safety, health, and welfare of employees. Section 10 specifically requires that training be provided in a form, manner, and language that is reasonably likely to be understood.

Employee Duties

Section 13 of the 2005 Act places duties on employees to take reasonable care for their own safety and that of others, to cooperate with their employer on safety matters, and to report any defects in the workplace that could endanger safety.

General Application Regulations 2007

The General Application Regulations 2007 set out specific requirements across areas including workplace design, manual handling, display screen equipment, and personal protective equipment — all of which are introduced in this course.
