Course Overview

The Slips, Trips and Falls course provides essential training on one of the most common causes of workplace injuries in Ireland. This CPD-accredited online course equips learners with the knowledge needed to identify slip, trip, and fall hazards, understand the legal requirements, and implement effective preventive measures in the workplace.

According to the Health and Safety Authority (HSA), slips, trips, and falls account for a significant proportion of all reported workplace accidents each year. Under the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act 2005, employers are legally required to identify hazards, carry out risk assessments, and take appropriate measures to prevent accidents. This course provides the awareness training needed to meet those obligations.

The course is fully online, allowing learners to complete it at their own pace. Upon achieving the minimum pass mark of 70%, a CPD-accredited certificate is issued immediately.

About This Course

The Slips, Trips and Falls course is designed to raise awareness of the hazards that cause these common workplace accidents and to provide practical guidance on prevention. Slips, trips, and falls can occur in any workplace — from offices and schools to construction sites and healthcare facilities — and can result in injuries ranging from minor bruising to serious fractures and head injuries.

The course examines the most common causes of slips, trips, and falls, including wet or contaminated floors, uneven surfaces, poor lighting, trailing cables, cluttered walkways, and inappropriate footwear. Learners will gain an understanding of how to conduct a simple risk assessment for slip, trip, and fall hazards using the principles set out in the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act 2005 and the General Application Regulations 2007.

Preventive strategies are covered in detail, including good housekeeping practices, appropriate signage, floor surface management, adequate lighting, the use of handrails, and the importance of selecting suitable footwear. The course also highlights the responsibilities of both employers and employees in maintaining a safe working environment and reporting hazards promptly.

Who Is This Course For?

This course is suitable for all employees across every industry sector. It is particularly relevant for those working in environments where slip, trip, and fall hazards are common, such as hospitality, retail, healthcare, education, construction, and office environments.
