BLS (Basic Life Support) Course

The BLS course is designed to teach healthcare professionals to recognise several life-threatening emergencies, provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED), and relieve choking in a safe, timely, and efficient manner for victims of all ages adults, children, and infants.

BLS (Basic Life Support) Course

The BLS (Basic Life Support) Course by Phoenix STS is designed to impart essential life-saving skills. It focuses on how to respond effectively to various emergencies, including victims of sudden cardiac arrest. This course, approved by the Irish Heart Foundation and aligned with the standards of the American Heart Association, utilises the innovative Practice-While-Watching technique, a video-based training method proven effective for skill acquisition. Tutors closely monitor learners during the course, offering real-time feedback and guidance to ensure skills are adequately learned and executed. The structure of this BLS Course aims to boost the learner’s confidence and readiness to perform life-saving techniques in actual emergencies.

Course Aims and Objectives

The BLS (Basic Life Support) Course is for healthcare professionals who need to know how to perform CPR and other lifesaving skills in various in-hospital and out-of-hospital settings, such as nursing homes.

Target Audience

  • The Bls course is intended for participants who provide healthcare to patients in various settings, including in-hospital and out-of-hospital settings such as nursing homes.
  • These healthcare providers may include (but are not limited to) Physicians, Medical Students, General Practitioners, General and Psychiatric Clinical Nurse Managers and Staff Nurses, Paramedics, Emergency Medical Technicians, Dentists, Respiratory Therapists, Cardiac Technicians, Cardiac Rehabilitation Staff, Physiotherapists, Physical and Occupational Therapists, Nursing Students, Care Assistants.

Training Area Requirements

The location must provide suitable training areas in line with government guidelines on the management of COVID-19.

Pre-Course Requirements

  • Fluency in English.
  • Suitable clothing for practical training.
  • Learners should be physically fit enough to carry out chest compression on a manikin while kneeling.
  • It is a requirement that learners demonstrate effective CPR techniques during the class.

Training Methods

The course is facilitated by our tutors, who will use video-based training to guide you through the course.

Assessment

  • Learners will be assessed on a practical scenario and 25 multiple-choice questions.

There are only 6 learners per course, which aligns with Irish Heart Foundation guidelines.
