The main features of the Standard Med Sled are the patented perimeter tether – which provides patient stabilisation when descending stairs or lowering from a bed, and the unique stairwell braking system – which allows for a safe and controlled stair descent of individuals 2 or 3 times the weight of the operator and helps to reduce the risk of manual handling injuries. Both the tether and braking system come preassembled on every sled as standard, enabling simple, fast deployment in emergency situations.
Other standard features include curved sides to ensure maximum patient protection, three securing cross straps with metal side release buckles and foot end T-strap (for extra patient security), foot-end pulling strap and 8 carry handles. Each sled rolls up compactly to fit inside a carry bag – single shoulder strap bag supplied with every sled.
The sled has been designed to accommodate a backboard or basket stretcher and is capable of carrying bedding, IV bags, oxygen cylinders and other small devices needed for critical care patients.
Additional accessories sold separately include wall mounting brackets – for use where bannisters and handrails are not suitable for the stair braking system and storage cases.
Also available is the Med Sled First Call Funeral Sled for the discreet removal of deceased persons.
Available in funeral black with plastic safety buckles.
A product information video is available, it is not intended to be a substitute for training as no video can correct handling errors or bad habits.

Since the changes to the Fire Services Act 1981 in 2003, the Fire Service is no longer obliged to provide a “complete evacuation service” for premises placing the onus upon the business owner, and changes in the ‘Disability Act’ – which now states that everyone must have the same right of evacuation in an emergency.
