The Autism Awareness course will provide you with an understanding of what autism is and how it affects a child’s daily life. It will touch on what factors contribute towards a child developing autism as well as some of the typical behaviours associated with it and how to provide adequate support for those with the condition.

Learn about autism, a complex and challenging long-term condition for many individuals and their families. Understand the autism spectrum and how it is experienced by different individuals and their family members. The course explains how ideas about autism have evolved and explores diagnosis, causes, intervention and life-span development.
This Autism Awareness course also discusses what happens during the diagnosis process, some of the intervention methods that can help manage the condition and suggests some simple adaptations you can make to improve a child with autism’s day to day life.
The course touches on the potential causes of autism and the misconceptions that people have about the causes. We will then look in detail at the steps involved in getting a diagnosis and what to expect during the assessment. Medication that can be used to help people manage their symptoms and the side effects of these will be explained. Finally, we explore how autism can affect learning and the steps that can be put in place to help children in education.
Autism is a lifelong developmental disability that affects how a person communicates with and relates to other people around them. Our Autism Awareness course is ideal for anyone who works with people who are autistic, such as teachers, carers and educators who want to know how to adapt their methods.
Target Audience
People who are working in adult and child care environments. Those working in all areas of care may come into contact with people who has Autistic Spectrum Disorders ASD. Although the course focuses on children with autism, having an awareness of the condition and how best to provide support to someone with ASD will be of use to anyone who interacts with and cares for children and adults as part of their work.
